How to setup Google Analytics in your Website
Today, I will teach you how to utilize Google’s Analytics Tool to gather information for your Visitors or Users in your Website. I will give you step by step method on how you can utilize it, to optimize your Website’s Traffic.
So Why do you need Google Analytics ?
Google Analytics is a completely free Web Analytics Tool provided by Google that helps you measure your Website Traffic and gather vital information about your Website Visitors. This tool can give you information like where the visitors are coming from (demographic overview, age, gender, devices etc), which pages they are visiting, how long they are staying on their website visitors you have converted. It can give you detail reports on User Sessions, Real Time Visitors, Locations, Traffic Sources and overall conversions.
It is completely free of charge and, given the information it can provide you with, you can be sure that it will help you make your every online marketing campaign result in actual benefits that will lead to the improvement of your bottom line.
Google Analytics is offered in two additional versions: the subscription based Google Analytics 360, targeted at enterprise users and Google Analytics for Mobile Apps, an SDK that allows gathering usage data from iOS and Android Apps
So ultimately its a great tool for every Web Developer to analyze and derive reports on what’s actually happening behind the scene and how to improve the website’s visitor performance and organic rankings, that ultimately helps in Search Engine Optimization.
How to Setup Google Analytics ?
Step 1 - Create Google Account :
The First Step for setting up Google Analytics for your Website is to create a Google Account. Create a Google Account. Only with a Google Account can you actually have access to Google Analytics, so you can either create a new one or use the one already have, but make sure that only have access to it.
Step 2 - Sign Up for Google Analytics :
Once you have created your Google Account, you can go to Google Analytics to setup your new Analytics Account.
After you enter the necessary information, you will need to configure your data sharing settings, the options for which will be right below.
250 Google Analytics Profiles can be created using SINGLE Google Account Login. Statistically, once you get the Login ID credentials, you can create about 25 Google analytics accounts with a Google login and 50 profiles per Google Analytics account which equates to 1250 (25 X 50) profiles per Google login
Step 3 - Setup a New Property :
- Click Admin from the left side corner of the Analytics Dashboard:
In the ACCOUNT column, use the menu to select the account to which you want to add the property. If you have a lot of accounts, use the search box to help you find the right one.
In the PROPERTY column, seFull Stack Web Developerlect Create new property from the menu. If you don’t have Edit permission on the account, you won’t see the Create new property option. Check that you’ve selected the correct account in the ACCOUNT column.
Select Website or Mobile app. If you select Website, skip to Step 7. If you select Mobile app, continue to Step 6.
(Mobile app) Under Tracking Method, select Firebase. Select an app from the menu and click Connect App.
Enter the Website or App Name. If you plan on tracking more than one app in your account, use a very specific and descriptive name that includes the edition or version number. This will help you keep your app properties organized.
(Web only) Enter the Web Site URL. You cannot create a property if your URL isn’t formatted correctly.
Select an Industry Category. When you select an industry category, you can use goal templates designed for your industry.
Select the Reporting Time Zone. This will be used as the day boundary for your reports, regardless of where the data originates.
Click Get Tracking ID. Your property is created after you click this button, but you must set up the tracking code to collect data.
Step 4 - Add Tracking Id to Website :
Tracking Id is used by Google to check the hits from your Website, every Property has a unique value that is used by Google to identify which Website is it, and which profile is it associated with.
Go to Admin > Property > Tracking Info > Tracking Code Menu in the left side navigation:
Copy the Script for that particular Tracking Id and paste this code in to the head of your Website’s index.html , before the </head> tag on every page you want to track.
Your tracking code needs to be installed on every page on your website that you want to track in order for Google Analytics to be able to measure and report the activity on your website. The installation of the code depends on the type of website you have and what CMS platform you are using.
Step 5 - Finally, Check if it Works !
Once you save your website’s files, and upload to your websites host. You can click on the button on the Tracking Id ( Send Test Traffic Link)
One New POP up browser will be open > Go to Real Time Overview :
And You can Check the Traffic to your Website :
