Building a Android App using React Native

React Native is a framework to build hybrid apps for Android or iOS. We will be building a android app using React Native soon. But first lets setup our base to start building our Apps.

In this tutorial, I will be using Windows 10 as our operating system to setup and install our requirements. So lets get stared :

Requirements:

  1. Chocalatey
  2. Nodejs
  3. Python2
  4. Java SE Development Kit (JDK)
  5. Android Studio

Installing Requirements

  • Chocolatey - Package manager for windows

Follow the instructions to install chocolatey from here

You might require this to install the below packages.

  • Node

Using Chocalatey :

Open powershell and type:

choco install -y nodejs.install

or You can also download Node using the Download Node

If you already have node, make sure its version is 8.3 or greater.

We will use Node v.10.17.0 LTS

  • Python2

Using Chocolatey :

Open powershell and type:

choco install -y python2

or You can also download Python2 using the Download Python 2

  • JDK8

Using Chocolatey :

choco install -y jdk8

Or You can also download JDK8 using the Download JDK8

If you already have a JDK on your system, make sure it is version 8 or newer.

  • Android Studio

Download from here - Android Studio

Download Android SDK and Build Tools using SDK Manager - Android 9.0 PI (28)

You need to install the SDK for Android PI (28) and create a AVD (Android Virtual Machine) - Pixel 2 using Android PI

Run App using AVD

npx react-native run-android

Setup Start the AVD and run the command to start the metro server

That’s all, you can start building your apps with this base. In the next part, we will initialize our react native project to start building our App.

So Stay Tuned !
